A Day At California’s Great America
Hey there Coaster Chit Chat fans….Jeremy here bringing you everything California’s Great America! Through the last few months of me living in North Cal, I have had the opportunity to be able to explore and visit this little gem of a park. California’s Great America used to me owned by Marriott, and then by Paramount, is now owned and ran by Cedar Fair. As this is my first Cedar Fair park to visit, I must say they do an amazing job at making this park look absolutely breathtaking! From the time you enter, to the time you leave, it is hard to see anything but beauty while you are here. Ok, well let us get into the park itself!
As soon as I walked through the gates, I saw that they had an amazing double deck carousel, which I have never in my life seen! The music was as if I was strolling along a boardwalk in the 20’s, and the fountain and pool they have leading up to it is magical. I almost felt like I was at a Disney park for a second. Of course I was there for the rides and the first one I rode knocked my socks off!
Goldstriker is most likely one of the best and most intense wooden coasters I have ever been on! It was my first GCI coaster, and it was phenomenal! It was a master of airtime, and was an out of control gem. It is not your typical out and back wood coaster. It is a twister coaster, which GCI is famous for. All the twist and turns make you feel like you are going much faster than you really are. Also this coaster utilizes many tunnel effects. Even the first hill is through a tunnel. The trains are also millennium flyer cars, which make the twist drops a lot more intense than expected.
Here is a POV of GoldStriker brought to you by Great Coasters International. Now this video does not have all of the tunnels installed yet, but it is a great way to show you how fast this beast is!
Flight Deck was an early B&M invert! Even though it is an early model, this coaster defiantly does not disappoint. As it use to be themed to the film Top Gun, with ownership changes they changed it to Flight Deck. This is defiantly a very unique invert, and has the absolute perfect layout. As you are climbing the lift, all you can see is beautiful mountains to the right. As you shoot down the hill, you go through the first loop, then a very steep helix going up. You then cross over the park right in front of the Theatre Royale. As you can see through the picture, this is a great spot to stand to watch this ride. You then zoom through the trees and over the lake where you experience another inversion, and an amazing helix incredibly close to the water!
Here is a POV brought to you by coasterforce.com! I hope you enjoy Flight Deck as much as I did.
The Demon is a classic looping Arrow coaster. It opened May 29th 1976. Its twin sister opened the same time at what is now Six Flags Great America in Grueene, Illinois
This may be old, but it was tons of fun. It was much smother than I had expected, and brought me back quite a few years in history, which I totally loved! This coaster features a great first drop into one of the worlds first double loop. You then make your way back up only to see a demon face rock. You shoot down into the rock, which makes you think your head is about to come off, then you go through two sets of the classic Arrow cork screw! This may be an oldie, but it is still a very fun classic! Thank you Arrow for paving the way for us!

Vortex is another early B&M stand up coaster. Now the first time I rode it my head defiantly got banged up, but I tried it a second time in the front and it was much more enjoyable. As it was one of the early models, this coaster just features two inversions, and a few helixes, Now I must so though, for a stand up this had some clips of airtime that were very unexpected. News has been stated that this will be a floorless B&M in the future, so if it is stand ups you like, than you need to get here fast!

Here is Drop Zone! This is for sure an intense drop tower, as I have not seen one like this is quite a few years. This is actually the tallest structure in the park, and drops over 200ft to the ground. It is short and oh so sweet! That’s also all I have got to say!

Next up we have The Grizzly! This truly is a beautiful coaster. The structure is magnificent! I am so happy they have been able to keep around this masterpiece for the whole entire family to enjoy. It is an amazing first coaster experience for the young ones, and families can enjoy it time and time again together!

Now we have all head of Adventure Theaters before, right? Mass Effect is a brand new attraction at the park, and by far the most amazing action adventure theatre I have ever seen in my whole entire life. This has the best 3d effects in the world, and the coolest 4d it is unreal. This to me beats anything out there that is a 4d adventure. Mass Effect also has a live actor as your captain, so it is a little different each time, which I totally love! Mass Effect takes you to the New Earth! A new land that is luxurious, pristine, and being hunted by other alien life forms! As you arrive you realize you are in trouble as you have a crash landing. When you hit the dirt, you actually smell the dirt. Then a plant like thing opens up and tons of bugs crawl out. You actually feel them crawling on you. Right after that, a weird alien looking thing comes at you with its mouth open, and you can actually smell its breath. The whole experience was incredible. I cant just give away the whole story so you are for sure going to have to go experience this for yourself! Believe me, you will not be disappointed!
Now as I have given you some great coasters to look at, I am not going ride to ride or this would get way too long. However, California’s Great America does have some amazing flat rides for the whole family to do. I am going to post a few more pictures of the park itself. Like I said, this is a great park and tons of fun for the whole entire family!
