Knott’s Merry Farm 2016 – For a Spectacular Family Outing
It’s Christmas once again in Calico, and Knott’s Merry Farm is celebrating in style. The streets are decked out with tons of poinsettia, lights, garlands, and festive music fills the air. Delicious foods await you, there are fabulous shows in the theatres and on the stages, and shopping opportunities abound. Whatever it is you love about the holidays, you will find it at Knott’s. It was my privilege to attend Merry Farm on behalf of Coaster Chit Chat, so let’s take a look.
Yesterday was a rainy and cool day, but the warmth was abundant within and without the park.
On my way in I took a look at the Market Place and the Christmas Crafts Village in Ghost Town. The artisans and merchants were busy and the displays were beautiful.
Merchants selling all matter of goods line the streets of Calico and Ghost Town. Here’s a look of just some of the items available.
Free admission to the Knott’s Christmas Crafts Village is available Mon-Thurs Nov 21-Dec 8. The Christmas Crafts Village is open every day of Merry Farm, November 19 – January 8 (All of Knott’s Berry Farm is closed Christmas Day).
Between the great shows, I recommend spending some time visiting the Livery, Little School House and the Town Hall, where the fine citizens of Calico are waiting to visit with you.
But the SHOWS are simply amazing. The Calico Saloon Show is a cheerful affair with singing. comedy and dancing. (And while you are there, have a refreshing glass of Boysenberry Beer)
The Gift of the Magi, in the historic Birdcage Theatre, is a beautiful classic Christmas story told with humor and grace. The acting was awesome, touching and sweet. The gracious cast posed with the guest for photos after the show.
The Calico Tree Lighting Ceremony features the citizens of Calico and the Calico Carolers. A steady rainfall during the ceremony added to the wintery feel. The singers are amazing and the tree dazzling.
The It’s the Merriest Christmas Show Ever, Charlie Brown at the new Calico Mine Stage was cancelled due to the rain, and I didn’t get over to see the A Peanuts Guide to Christmas Show in Camp Snoopy. Watch for another Merry Farm update soon.
The Charles M Schulz Theatre has magically transformed from Elvira’s Danse Macabre to the Merry Christmas, Snoopy! Ice Show, (although the fog still smells wonderfully like Haunt). The musical selections range from humorous to romantic, spiritual, religious, classical and pop. The skating and props are beautifully choreographed to tell the stories in a unique and moving way. And yes, there is a subtle, but clear message to the entire show, which is pure Knott’s and really made my day!
When you swing by to see Santa and get your photos, be sure you are hungry. The food selections in Santa’s Christmas Cabin are all awesome, but the most awesomeness I think I have ever eaten is the Turkey Dinner Bites. Ya gotta try this!
There is so much more to tell you about. Check out our Facebook and Twitter for tons more photos and watch for another Merry Farm update in the near future. As always, a huge thank you to the entire Knott’s Berry Farm team for another great event, and for the gracious hospitality they always extend to the media.
